Gangtey Tshechu Festival is held at Gantey Goenpa (monastery) in Phobjikha Valley. Phobjikha valley is famous for its picturesque scenery and also as a winter home of the black-necked cranes which migrate from Tibetan plateau.
A three-day Gangtey Tshechu festival immerses you into different mask dances all of which has different legends and stories behind it, all of which has its significance to Buddhism and Bhutanese culture and some very specific to the locals of Gangtey.
It’s an annual festival that brings locals together to witness mask dances, receive blessings, it also is an important social gathering.
